Apologies in advance for my brevity and any typos. Thursday night games are difficult to fit in so I'm going to have to do some quick typing and summarization this morning. First, my general observations. Then I'll give you a game summary.;
Observations
- The position switch of Jonathan Pittman to QB and Tyler Randolph to RB/WR/Slot is a game-changer! Props to the coaches for getting the 2 superb playmakers on the field at the same time. Pittman throws a great football and Randolph is electric out in space!
- Pittman with 3 TD passes! When's the last time the Stallions had 3 TD passes in a single game. I have no idea but my guess is that its been quite awhile!
- Goldsboro had some good players; just not enough of them. SWO held a considerable edge in depth and it really showed itself late in the game as the Stallions blew it wide open!
- Major props to Jr PK Dany Santos. The young man has really progressed and is now virtually a lock on PATs. In addition, he can send kickoffs deep as well as the occasional directional/spot kick.
- The SWO stable of RBs performed very well last night. As Billy mentioned in our post-game "Stable Talk" segment, it looks like the Stallions of old with a plethora of RBs to rotate in-and-out.
- O-Line certainly did it's job opening holes. Great job by the big guys up front!
- Gavin Helms is emerging as significant pass catching threat.
- The defense really brought pressure and laid some major hits on the Cougars. The Stallions did give up a few long completions and that will need to be addressed. But an overall solid performance.
- Defense with 4 interceptions!
- I'm very impressed with the recent offensive changes. So many new formations and plays! We haven't abandoned the traditional Stallion rushing attack, but we are a lot more diverse and creative. And we switched back into power formations and the old school 'T' when appropriate. With all of these changes, there were very, very few mistakes or missed assignments. Great job by coaches and players.
- Ethan Watson with multiple interceptions! He's a true ballhawk in the Stalllion secondary.
Game Recap
Q1
- First play from scrimmange, Pittman hits Randolph in the flat and #11 does the rest; juking multiple Cougar defenders en route to 70 yard TD!
