NOTE:  JDNews has not published a game article yet.  If/When I see an article, I will provide the link.  You may be prompted to subscribe.  If so, there's an option for a 6-month subscription for only $1.  Give it a shot.  If you don't like it, you can always cancel after football season.  For the moment, they do have this article which provides a little bit of game info:  https://www.jdnews.com/story/sports/high-school/2022/08/18/nc-high-school-football-damon-june-jacksonville-cardinals-southwest/10306843002/

My apologies in advance but since this is Friday morning (instead of the typical Saturday morning article), I'll have to keep things very brief.  Please excuse any typos or grammatical errors.

Observations - Positives

  • Breath of fresh air!  I don't know how else to describe it, but there was sense of calmness and togetherness along the sidelines.  Small in number and small in size (by Stallion standards), but HUGE in heart and fight and support and togetherness!

  • The new T-Formation offense worked!  We didn't reach paydirt, but we darn sure moved the ball.  Cut down on some untimely penalties (fairly typical for a first game), and the Stallion rushing attack should pile up huge numbers this season.

  • It's a small thing but QB Tanner Whitehead is no longer sprinting back-and-forth to the sideline after every play to receive next playcall.  The plays are being shuttled in by other players.  This saves Tanner probably a mile of running during the course of a game.  With him playing so many positions, it will most certainly help to keep him as fresh as possible.

  • Props to Coach Beau Williams and the Cardinals for taking a knee late in the game and not piling on an unnecessary score.  Classy move!

  • Great job by the coaching staff!!!!   They have had to endure so much adversity and came through with flying colors.

Things to Work On

  • False start penalties.  As I mentioned previously, these are fairly typical for a first game and I'm sure will be significantly reduced as the season progresses.

Moving Ahead

  • Richlands.  That's the only thing on my mind.  To be perfectly honest...  I wasn't overly excited about the start of football this season.  But now I am!!   I like this team and can't wait to get back out there next Friday.  I hope you're there as well!

GO STALLIONS!!
